Call me Crazy!  My friend told me about The Ultimate Blog Challenge a couple weeks ago and I immediately felt that I needed to participate.  I signed up and thought about getting started early, but didn’t.  That’s usually the way it goes, right?  Thinking you have more time.  Okay, let’s just call it what it is — Procrastination.

The Ultimate Blog Challenge starts today, July 1, and runs for the whole month.  I will be writing a new blog each day.  That is 31 days.  Thirty-one blogs.  (laughs)  Holy cow, what was I thinking?

I’ve been talking about wanting to write more for a long time.  But I don’t.  I haven’t – except for my Wednesday writing group.  I can write in my Journal until my hand cramps, and keep writing.  I can write poetry when the mood strikes.  I can write a newsletter to my email list.  For some reason, when it comes to sharing what is in my brain on any number of subjects and opening up a “New Post”, I freeze.

So, here I am, committing to the Blog Challenge because it is something I KNOW I would benefit from.  I know there are things I need to be saying – writing – that I am not writing.  I know there are ideas that need to be loosened and released from my brain.  They aren’t doing any good in there.  I know there are statements that need to be made and topics that need to be covered.

As I learned from participating in a 30-day Exercise Challenge back in October, Accountability is key for me.  I also do very well with daily routines and habits.  The trick will be to find the best time to write.

I started brainstorming some topics to write about over the last few days.  I also asked for input from friends and people who enjoy my work.  I’m certain I can come up with 31 – I mean 30.  Because I’m counting this one (no shame)…My Declaration of Commitment.  ROAR!

What I am hoping to get out of this Blog Challenge:

  1.  A consistent writing practice.
  2. Increase traffic to and interest in my Blog.
  3. Step outside my comfort zone and share my thoughts with the world.
  4. Pave the way for discussion, learning and growing.
  5. Show myself that I can write every day AND it won’t take the effort I imagine.

I’m off to do some more brainstorming.  WRITE (blog) AND ROAR!!!
